Andrew paints sea and land in a way that is pleasing and thoughtful.
There is usually more to the image than strikes one at first. The works evolve organically, beginning with life’s everyday glances. Andrew explores the relationships between what exists and our perceived reality. Together, via both viewer and painter’s observational and emotional responses to the works, an understanding may be reached.
All Andrew’s works are one-off originals. There is nothing else quite like them. To own one is to possess a rare take on our surroundings and life within.
“ . . . . Climbing the stairs to my studio, as if in a bird’s lair. A glance through the window at the ocean. Thoughts and paint flow . . . . “
Andrew moved from Berkshire about 12 years ago where he had spent many year painting since the early 80’s. Followed by 6 years working and living on a tiny, Scottish west coast island. It fell between the Isle of Mull and the port of Oban on the mainland. About 10 metres from the shore, his studios overlook the Wild Atlantic.
These days, he is still living by the sea where he has a studio in the tiny village of Niton on the southern tip of the Isle of Wight just by St. Catherine’s lighthouse.
His life is steeped in constantly changing environmental elements.

A seafarer’s paradox,
“Waking up each morning to the sounds and sight of the Atlantic, one cannot but be affected by the elements in view from my windows . . .
Latterly he has made the move back to fresh shores. Still coastal, this time, a tiny ancient village on the Isle of Wight.
The sea, where life began, always an unforgettable theme
Wild winds and rain sweep Scotland’s west coast from the south west, moulding sea and landscape. Summer sun warms the shores bathing the southern Isle of Wight. Andrew’s works are the culmination of decades looking and painting.
. . . . I absorb my surroundings and paint an emotional response.”
